“I stayed at the Monteverde Inn with my husband and two kids (ages 10 and 13). It was THE BEST! The setup is perfect for families or couples. My brother and his girlfriend were with us. They stayed in a smaller room and feel in love with the place. We loved having the restaurant onsite and enjoyed drinks while watching the sunset every evening while the kids played out on the lawn. The view is spectacular. The pizza was great too!
The BEST think about this place is the private 15 acre rainforest reserve. We felt like we had our own personal rainforest to ourselves! The trails were well maintained, we saw all sorts of beautiful birds and animals! We loved relaxing in the hammock garden and hiking to the breathtaking waterfall. We took a wonderful and informative night tour with Hector. He was awesome...you could tell how much he loved animals and was so excited when we spotted a creature that was rarely seen.
You absolutely cannot get a better deal. The prices were so reasonable for this amazing place. All of the staff was wonderful and we were always treated very well.”
Amazing views and friendly staff

“We spent 2 nights here and the moment we arrived we were wowed by the amazing views from the front. You can see all the way down to the Gulf of Nicoya far away in the distance. Sunsets are wonderful though it does seem to be a particularly windy spot! Also be prepared for the weather to change by the minute from sun/hot to cloud/rain/cold then back to sun/hot again etc! Definitely bring a waterproof and a jumper/fleece as it gets particularly chilly at night. Our room was pretty basic with two single beds but it was fine and we were impressed that the bathroom had a nice shower and we always had hot water.
The staff on reception were really nice and helpful when we checked in and we were given a handy laminated map and provided with lots of information things to do. There was even a gorgeous little cat resting on the counter! The hotel is next to the Valle Escondido Preserve which has some nice trails through forest to more great viewpoints. Definitely recommend doing the guided night walk here. We saw a tarantula, scorpions, snakes, frogs, toads plus a couple of sleeping birds in the trees.
At the restaurant pizzas are their speciality. Given their emphasis on sustainability, organic farming and permaculture we were a bit surprised at the lack of vegetables or salad greens. If staying any longer I think we would have wanted to try somewhere else for dinner where there was more choice.”
Great Food, Better View (Restaurant)

“A++. The view from the cafe is unbelievable. Be prepared to feel like you’re on the edge of the world. My husband and I stayed at Monteverde Inn in February 2020 so we enjoyed all that Cafe Escondido and the Valle Escondido Reserve have to offer. The wood fired pizza, quesadilla, and chicken panini were excellent. The iced coffees were a delicious treat. Staff is friendly and speak great English. But above everything, the view and the grounds are outstanding. Come for an afternoon, enjoy the Valle Escondido Reserve (including the amazing hammock garden), and then watch the sunset from Cafe Escondido. It’s truly paradise.”
Great Yoga Classes and nice views! (Aerial Yoga)
Written in February 2020
“When I came to stay at Monteverde Inn I did not know that there was the option to take a yoga class. I signed up the night before thinking it was going to be a standard class, something like the classes I take regularly in my home town. It turned out the class was Arial Hammock Yoga, something I had not heard of before. The class was amazing, Susana was a great teacher! The hammocks provided a weightless feeling and I was able to reach some deep stretches I had not experienced before. The view from the top floor of the ocean 30 kilometers away was breathtaking. I highly recommend taking this class if you are staying at the hotel or visiting the area. I hope when I return to US I will find a yoga class like this.”
Monteverde Hidden Valley Permaculture Tour (Permaculture Farm)
Written in February 2020
“The Monteverde Inn has several tour options- one of them being the Permaculture tour. This tour was fantastic- extremely informative and eye opening. The first 45 minutes was classroom based where we learned some background, and the rest of the tour was a walk around the property to see first hand the amazing sustainable practices going on here. Lots of useful, information was provided that I will be able to bring back and apply to make urban living more sustainable! I did the tour with my mom (in her 70s who has some mobility issues) and the walk was completely doable and quite accessible. This property is incredible and inspiring, I recommend it completely!”
Very rare kingkajou and many more nocturnal animals spotted (Night Tour)
Written in October 2019
“What started with popcorn soon became better than a movie. We were lucky to have a very clear and dry evening in october to go on this night expedition with Hector, our friendly and very smart guide.
We saw more than we were expecting to see and were very very happy to see the rare kingcajou. We also saw a small scorpion, some toucanets, two very hairy spiders, a leaf mimicing insect and some of the very colourful motmot birds. Alltogether a very entertaining evening we will not easily forget.
The owners of the monteverde inn guarantee top quality guides and close the trails for guests in the evening so the night tours can be of the highest possible quality, wich is great!”
